Welcome to St. Bridget's Church

St. Bridget’s Church, Chelvey has served a small rural community in North Somerset for almost nine hundred years.

“This glorious gem in our midst”

Situated in open countryside in a conservation area, St. Bridget’s is the parish church for both Chelvey and Brockley and has a wide following in the local community.

St. Bridget’s Church forms part of the Benefice of Backwell, Chelvey and Brockley, which sits within the Portishead Deanery and the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

The Church is a small building but is exceptionally interesting for its surviving medieval fabric from the 12th to the 16th centuries and for its fittings and monuments.

The lawn outside allows us to host spiritual services and social events.  These have included quiet days of prayer and contemplation, harvest lunches, cream teas, and other events.

The open space in our Tynte Chapel is used for coffee after Communion and for local meetings such as the PCC and Parish Council.  It is also ideal for events such as flower and arts festivals.

Additionally,  a small pastoral team, working with the Rector and the Ministry Team across the Benefice, aims to support members of the church family prayerfully through visits, telephone calls and home communion.

Support is focused on people and families with long term health issues, bereavement, and end of life care.

Charitable Donations

The community at St. Bridget’s raises money to donate to other charities each year.

In December 2023 we donated £500 to the Langley House Trust, which helps people with convictions to transform their lives.

And in January 2024 we donated £500 to One25, a Bristol charity for women moving from crisis and trauma towards independence in the community.
